Porrons and me... and mi coche.

This is a picture of my Ford Escort ZX2 purchased from the Great Franz Basler (my grandpa) in November of 1999.

This has nothing to do with my drinkabout but it should be noted that on Sunday, April 26th at approximately 10:00 PM...

It was ghostriden.

There is now another dent in the hood if you look closely, it is on the right of this picture.

Before this we were drinking out of a porron.  A porron is a Spanish drinking vessel most often found in Catalonia that sometimes helps people think ghostriding their car is a "good idea."

In accordance with Missouri State Law our driver was below the legal limit.

To Catalonia, I will go...

  1. Jake! I love it. Be sure to take your porron to Porrera and visit Vall Llach! Also, don't miss the Codornui winery in Penedes. The architecture will blow your mind. Raventos is just across the lane. Bad blood.

  2. Jake,

I’m sooo jealous of your trip. Sorry I didn't get this sent yesterday before you left. Hopefully, you'll be online at some point. Here are some of my favorites from Barcelona and Paris

    Barcelona:
    El Xampanyet (cool champagne bar)
Mercat de La Boqueia (an amazing food market off La Rambla)
Cafe de l'opera (try the chocolate and churros)
    Cal Pep (traditional tapas bar)
Sites: La Pedrera (one of the Gaudi residences -- go to the roof...totally wild), Casa Batllo (another Gaudi building -- it's a big dragon), Sagrada Familia (of course), Parc Guell (Gaudi's mosaics are everywhere)

    Paris:
Drinking chocolate at Angelina’s (just north of the Louvre)
Ile St-Louis – that was my favorite day in Paris. It's small and pristine. There's a beautiful cheese shop right by Berthillion – an amazing place for ice cream
Fauchon and Hediard (two amazing markets – prepared foods too – in the opera district)
La Dernier Gout (a charming wine shop owned by an ex pat – in the left bank)
Rue Cler (by the Eiffel tower) -- it's a street with tons of produce and food fenders. So cute, and it was the best street food I bought while I was there.
Sites: Museums all have one night they are open late. It’s a great way to see the Louvre, the Orsay, and the Pompidou without the lines. If you're going to pick though -- go to the Orsay and/or the Pompidou. The Louvre is huge and old. The Denon wing was worth seeing, but we did it at night with no lines. I highly recommend the Jardin du Luxembourg...great spot for a picnic.

Enjoy yourself and please keep us posted. We'll miss you!!!

    Mandy
